Economics for Everyone: A Critical Reading List

Posted on 2016-08-20 By

This list includes some of the most important and influential books on the economics of capitalism.

They are classics that span decades, but it is more important than ever for Americans to read and digest them in today’s complex world.

Why? Because capitalism and our enviable free-market economy is continually being undermined by those who believe in the power of big government and their misguided need to micro-manage our entire monetary system.

These economists will teach you what you need to know to help stop that from happening, and they will give you tools to effectively challenge that big government ideology.

Our Republic celebrates limited government along with personal and economic liberty, but we need current-day Americans with a solid grounding in capitalist principles if we are going to preserve that founding tradition.

The authors here are affiliated with the noted Austrian School of Economics and its world center at the Ludwig von Mises Institute in Auburn, AL.

This world-renowned Institute memorializes the scholarship of Austrian economic and libertarian political theory in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises (1881-1973). It promotes a free-market capitalist economy that rejects taxation, monetary debasement, and coercive government intrusion into free markets everywhere.

It mission is to help others discover the economics of freedom for a better tomorrow.

The links provided are to amazon.com but these books can be obtained elsewhere, including from the Mises Institute that offers thousands of hours of audio and video lectures, free Institute lectures on YouTube, rare books and research journals, biographies of great economists, and its own comprehensive bookstore.

NOTE: I also recommend you visit the Library of Economics and Liberty where they offer many classic works in economics books and articles online, all free of charge; including transcripts of Nobel Lectures and excellent site research tools.
